Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province hosted a vibrant showcase on June 14 at the Ethnic Unity Square in Guanshanhu Park to celebrate Cultural and Natural Heritage Day.

The event, themed "When the Guiyang Marathon Meets Intangible Cultural Heritage", blended tradition with modern flair, creating a unique cultural experience. It aimed to breathe new life into traditional culture by integrating with sports, raising public awareness of intangible cultural heritage protection, and promoting its place in everyday life.

The celebration opened with Miao dances, Qianzhong Dixi opera, and flower stick dances, highlighting the diversity and charm of Guizhou's intangible cultural heritage.

A lively market followed, divided into five zones: local cuisine, hands-on experiences, cultural crafts, traditional medicine, and promotional displays. Nearly 80 artisans and businesses showcased Miao embroidery, Bouyei clothing, paper cutting, tea art, and other traditional crafts, drawing crowds throughout the day.

By connecting intangible cultural heritage with Guiyang Marathon, the event brought cultural depth to the race while making traditional crafts and performances more accessible and engaging for the public, breathing new life into these age-old traditions.
