The healthcare system of Qingzhen city, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been promoting the transfer of high-quality medical resources to grassroots levels to improve the grassroots medical institutions' serving capabilities.

In response to the increasing number of respiratory disease cases among children, leaders from the First People's Hospital of Qingzhen have taken a hands-on approach by investigating the situation, streamlining the treatment process, clarifying their work approach, and implementing improvement measures. They have coordinated the allocation of clinical medical staff members, logistical support, and medical equipment and resources.

"We have added a pediatric follow-up consultation room and a traditional Chinese medicine clinic for pediatrics. At the same time, we have guided branch hospitals to ensure patients receive treatment at the nearest facility," said Yang Jiahua, director of the Outpatient Department at the First People's Hospital of Qingzhen city.

It is understood that Qingzhen has implemented a plan that involves sending or assigning experts to county- or village-level healthcare institutions regularly to provide services to villagers, promoting the redistribution of high-quality medical resources to the county level, and effectively improving the medical service capabilities of grassroots healthcare institutions.

"Previously, when we went downtown for medical treatment, we had to wait in line. We were unfamiliar with the place and couldn't find our way around, often spending the whole day returning home in the evening. Now, the doctors come to our place, and it only takes half an hour to walk back and forth," said a villager benefiting from the plan.
