Vegetable growing base prospers with rural laborers

The vegetable growing base in Fengtangzhai village of Qingzhen city, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, is now crowded with farmers who are picking, packing, weighing, and loading vegetables.

"Now is the peak season for vegetable picking, and the vegetables that are produced at the base will be sold to farm produce markets and vegetable wholesale markets around the province," said Tang Jun, manager of the vegetable growing base.

The base is currently managed by a professional rural cooperative, and this year, it will be further expanded. Workers harvesting the vegetables earn 120 yuan ($17.47) every day, and are all villagers living in the nearby areas. Throughout the year, about 1 million yuan in wages is paid to the participating villagers, increasing the income of about 50 rural households.

Moving forward, the base will work out ways to raise its farmland utilization efficiency, and increase the quality of its agricultural products through modern agricultural facilities.
