Expanded edible fungi growing base brings more wealth to villagers

The edible fungi growing base in Zaijiang village in Weicheng town, Qingzhen city, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province was set up in 2017 and has a total fungi growing area of 2,700 square meters.

This year, the expansion project application of the base was officially approved, and four new greenhouses occupying 5,000 sq m were created.

The fungi are growing well after the expansion, and it now have a 100 percent survival rate. The fungi's taste, quality and color have all improved as well, said Han Benlin, manager of the growing base, who also highlighted the greenhouse's ability to control the temperature and irrigation to optimize the living environment for fungi.

Fungi produced in the growing base are now among the best-selling local farm produce at markets and supermarkets. The expanded base is expected to generate an additional 3.3 million yuan ($473,220) in annual sales revenue and create jobs for 30 locals.
