Qingzhen city in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has reported that steady progress has been made in promoting the use of agricultural insurance.

In line with the provincial government's decision to adjust the structure of its agricultural industry, push forward with agricultural reforms, and develop special agricultural sectors, Qingzhen is understood to have made full use of agricultural insurance policies issued by the central and provincial governments.

It has insured 13 categories of agricultural products, including rice, maize, rapeseed, wheat, potatoes, vegetables, tea, pigs, chickens and commercial forests.

Improvements have been made in handling agricultural insurance cases that involve natural disasters, pests and diseases, with the case numbers and compensation amounts rising to a varying degree.

During 2021, the city collectively held 45 agricultural insurance promotion campaigns and 17 training sessions, and handed out 5,000 posters and more than 30,000 service manuals. A 1.29-billion-yuan ($192.4 million) fund was established by the government to protect farmers from potential risks.

Last year Qingzhen reported 3,485 agricultural insurance claims, with compensation totaling 30.86 million yuan paid out.
