Based on three water works and their supporting water supply facilities, Qingzhen city in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province has established three water supply routes able to transport up to 90,000 metric tons of water, covering 95 percent of the urban and rural areas, according to Qingzhen's water affairs management bureau.

"We chose a major water source in the countryside and established waterworks there," said Zhao Xianlun, head of the bureau.

In this way, Zhao added, three water supply routes radiating out in different directions were established – with all of them connected to the water supply network in Qingzhen's urban areas.

The city has reportedly invested 418 million yuan ($65.21 million) to establish, expand and renovate water supply facilities.

Plans are for it to invest an additional 143 million yuan to include Maige town and Red Maple Lake town in its water supply system.
