Red Maple Lake town among 46 Guizhou folk culture, art towns

A document issued recently by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism has listed Red Maple Lake town, located in Qingzhen, Guiyang, as one of 42 provincial folk culture and art towns in 2021-23, for its special Di Opera.

Di Opera is mainly performed around the city of Anshun in Southwest China's Guizhou province, and is a traditional art form mostly among the Bouyei and Miao ethnic groups that live in the province. "Di" in Chinese means "earth" or "land", as Di Opera does not require a stage. Usually performers stage their plays just next to where the audience sit or stand, hence the name.

Local governments are urged in the document to prioritize the construction of provincial folk culture and art towns and arrange various activities to promote the exchange and exhibition of folk culture and art.
