Several local enterprises in Southwest China's Guizhou province, as well as locals from all walks of life, have participated in a charity event in Guiyang's Qingzhen county, according to local media reports on May 26.

Firms, including the Guiyang branch of China Pacific Insurance Group Co, Guizhou Jinmao Spirit Trade Co and three other companies, together with four generous locals – Liu Weihua, Liao Congxi, He Ting and Zeng Xiaolan – donated 39,000 yuan ($5,850), 120 school uniforms, 50 backpacks, and other items to Hanjiaba Primary School in Qingzhen's Anliu town.

Taking care of left-behind children is not only the business of governments, families and schools, but also a responsibility shared by all members of a society, said Guo Fang, a community leader from Jiangjiayuan village in Anliu town, who coordinated the charity activity.

Guo believes that with the kindness of social groups, these children will be further motivated to study hard and devote themselves to the country's development.

After the donation ceremony, registered impoverished households in Jiangjiayuan village were also visited. Donors got to know about their families and various health conditions through face-to-face talks with them, and encouraged them to strive harder for mutual prosperity.
