Qingzhen, a county-level city in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has collectively spent 900 million yuan ($135 million) to tackle drainage issues in urban areas.

The city first invested 300 million yuan to clear Dongmen Bridge, upgrade Baihua Road, cover 14 city roads and 170 laneways with asphalt, and pave pedestrians with pervious bricks to reduce the amount of standing water on the surface of the city's roads.

An additional 100 million yuan was spent on constructing 200,000 meters of rain drainage networks.

The government also cleared the 10-kilometer course of the Dongmen River, which mainly runs through the city's districts.
