The dinosaur cultural and scientific town in Qingzhen – the county-level city administered by Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – signed a contract on April 27 with Lijiang Yinghuawujin Management Co, with the two sides pledging to develop the town into a distinctive historical and cultural district.

The management company announced it would invest 300 million yuan ($45 million) in the dinosaur town project.

Covering an area of 1,500 mu (100 hectares), the dinosaur town is projected to attract a total of 1.5 billion yuan in investment. It has already been selected in the list of "Thousand Enterprises & Towns" initiative proposed by the National Development and Reform Commission.

In addition, the National Paleontological Fossil Expert Committee has also designated the town as a prehistoric creature research and study base.

Dinosaurs and ethnic culture are two major themes of the town, which will be celebrated with seven areas – focusing on river valleys, meteorites, castles, fossils, ancient tribes, magic blocks and cultural streets, respectively.

So far, construction of town's gate and the infrastructure of five sections of the town have been completed. The scenic spot will officially open its doors in May next year.
