Qingzhen, a county-level city in Southwest China's Guizhou province, is rapidly expanding a network of 5G base stations and recently opened the first batch of 183 scheduled to be installed this year, according to local officials.

They said that Qingzhen has planned and deployed the new infrastructure as a key project, based on its own development.

The first 5G base stations in the urban area of Qingzhen have all been installed and network coverage in key areas such as Qingzhen vocational education city, the Qingzhen municipal government, hospitals, schools and coach stations has been attained.

Operators are currently carrying out base station tests and verification and network optimization work, to achieve a download rate of up to 1Gbps.

Before the end of the year, Qingzhen city will have completed installing a total of 330 base stations, which will provide continuous 5G coverage in urban areas.

Moving forwards, Qingzhen will accelerate the construction of new infrastructure construction projects -- including 5G, the industrial internet, internet of things, artificial intelligence and data centers.

It will promote the in-depth integration of 5G and the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy.

Officials said the city will also assist in the construction of various 5G applications systems, making itself the core support area for the mid-to-high-end manufacturing industry and a region for trading of mid-to-high-end consumer goods in Guiyang city.
